Details
  • Demolition of the existing structures & carpark & site preparation.
  • Construction of the new Hunter Medical Research Institute facility, comprising 2 wings of solid elements linked together by a glass link circulation zone with an entry pod building to highlight the entrance, the HMRI building will have an overall GFA of 15,962sq m, comprising a 4 storey east & west wing connected through a central circulation area, & a 2 storey elevated entry pod.
  • Level 1 is a service floor to provide entry to the building, the east wing will house central support functions & plant rooms including loading dock, the west wing will accommodate the bioresources facility.
  • Level 2 contains offices & workstations & generic open plan laboratory spaces.
  • Level 3 contains the bottom level of the entry pod building, which will contain the main computer room & the offices and workstations for the Clinical Trials Support Unit which is located adjacent the reception on the level above.
  • Level 4 connects the proposed HMRI facility to the Ring Road, Kookaburra Cct via a skywalk, this level contains reception for the whole building in the entry pod which also contains the Clinical Trial Support Unit.
  • The eastern wing contains the HMRI administration including lecture theatre, staff lounge, dining & semi enclosed terrace.
  • The level 4 western wing contains offices & workstations & generic open plan laboratory spaces.
  • Construction elements comprise reinforced fair face concrete (pigmented), cement render over block work, perforated aluminium, double glazed vision panels, single glazed spandrel panels External works comprise A landscaped carpark with pedestrian stairs and walkways to link the various carpark terraces to the facility and back to Kookaburra Cct; bike paths; entry road; & outdoor recreation & barbecue area for staff.
