• Lyell McEwin Hospital's future role as a tertiary hospital within the next 5 years has now requires additional infrastructure to support this changed role.
• While the exact details for Stage C have yet to be finalised, the main core elements will include the following.
• New 3 level Acute Inpatient Building with 100 percent single rooms in pods of eight & a range of shared infrastructure at each level/ link to existing Joel Building nursing units; provision of helipad on roof; potential use of third floor to accommodate clinical offices.
• New 2 level Ambulatory Care Building to accommodate expanded outpatient & allied health functions; opportunity for further expansion in a future adjacent development; ability to link into existing access corridors at both ground & first floor/ potential for separate ambulatory entrance off the main entrance concourse.
• New 3 level Support Services Building (with provision for an additional future level); basement level to include provision for expanded/relocated support facilities including engineering & building services, biomedical engineering & supply services; ground floor to include expanded Women's Health Centre functions, administration & clinical offices; first floor for expanded education, research & administration accommodation; future level potentially for Research &/or administrative functions.
• Internal Reconfiguration, Refurbishment & Expansion works associated with some existing functional areas to meet increased services requirements (major areas).
• Required future proofing: ensuring that the design is flexible & adaptable to enable expansion, contraction & relocation of functional areas & services as required - operating theatres, operating theatre support facilities; additional ambulatory facilities; additional research, administration, clinical offices facilities.
