The Council invites tenders from suitably qualified & experienced Tenderers for the provision of Plant & Labour for construction of Wastewater Treatment Plant at Penneshaw.
- There are currently in the order of 235 existing houses in the township of Penneshaw, including the Seafront Hotel, Penneshaw Hotel, Backpackers & Youth Hostel & the newly redeveloped Caravan Park.
- The ultimate development within the township boundary specified by Council is approximately 435 allotments.
- Currently wastewater treatment from the existing houses is achieved by on-site treatment via septic tanks or aerobic systems & discharge to soakage trenches or irrigation Council proposes constructing a full sewage collection scheme with connections provided to each property within the scheme limits.
- Sewage will be collected by a combination of gravity drains & rising main & discharged to the treatment plant site, some 3 kilometres south east of the town.
Construction of the collection network being full sewer is expected to be completed in stages in order to service fully developed parts of the township initially & expanded as the township develops.
- Treated wastewater will be stored in the lagoon at the WWTP site.
- Class B effluent, as outlined in the SA Reclaimed Water Guidelines shall be achieve.
- Filtration & disinfection is to be undertaken after the lagoons & recycled water will be used for irrigation.
- The treatment requirement is to achieve a mean value BOD not greater than 20 mg/L & a mean value of suspended solids not greater than 30 mg/L.
- A median termotolerant coliform (E coli) prior to irrigation shall be not greater than 100/100 mL.
- Scope of Works: This tender is for the supply & installation of a WWTP & adjacent irrigation system to service the ultimate development level for the Township of Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island.
- Works Included: The tendered contract is performance based & will provide: a) Power connection; b) Inlet screen (if required by Process Design); c) Extended aeration treatment plant capable of producing Class B treated effluent; d) Gravity discharge of effluent to Storage Lagoon; e) Lagoon water pumps; f) Filtration equipment; g) Disinfection system; h) Irrigation system at the nearby site (including wobbler sprinklers); i) Control equipment housed in a shed; j) All other works required for the completion of the scheme.
- The treatment plant will be constructed on a hardstand pad adjacent the storage lagoon.
- The construction works are to start once the lagoon civil works are completed, which is expected to be 12 months away subject to approvals.
- The Contractor shall coordinate its works with the civil contractor.
