Construction of four-lane dual carriageway extension of Tonkin Hwy from Mills Rd West (Martin) to Thomas Rd (Byford) at freeway standards.
- Approximately 32 km in length.
- Project to include shared path along eastern side of Tonkin Hwy from Albany Hwy in Gosnells to South Western Hwy, Mundijong, & underpasses & overpasses at Corfield Street extension, Armadale Rd & Bishop Rd.
- Crossing facility will also be provided in vicinity of Manning Av in Martin, however it has not yet been determined whether this will be an underpass or overpass.

Total project cost is $140 million & includes contract price, land costs & project management costs.
- Work will be completed in two parts, initially reaching Armadale Rd by end of 2004 & then finalising extension project at Thomas Rd by end of 2006.
- Main Roads WA's pre-qualification requirements include Bridgeworks BC5+ & Roadworks R20+.
- Associated projects ID 6-79527 Tonkin Highway Extension (Stage 2) first reported Issue 03/02 Planning Section & ID 6-85742 Stage 1 specialist technical support first reported Issue 01/03 Planning Section.
