  • The proposal will release approximately 33.6Mt of ROM coal reserves which is within the current Blackwater Creek Corridor.
  • Infrastructure requirements will include a new services corridor of 20m width which will be established to provide for the relocation and installation of infrastructure and utility services.
  • The services corridor will be located on the mine side of the diversion channel, 50m from the diversion batters.
  • Existing 66kV and 22kV electricity distribution lines will require relocation to within this corridor.
  • Additional light vehicle access roads will be established within the Curragh East Mining Lease.
  • The 2.4km relocation and extension to the existing haul road on the mining leas will allow the transfer of ROM coal to the existing CHPP.
  • Progressive rehabilitation works would commence in November 2008 and will run concurrently with the construction works.
  • Blackwater Creek is proposed to be diverted from its current alignment to a newly constructed channel alignment.
  • The diversion channel will be constructed using large earthmoving equipment.
  • The total volume of cut material require to construct the channel is estimate at approximately 16 million bank cubic metres (MBCM) and the total volume of fill would be approximately 0.7 MBCM.
  • The channel will be constructed on a single grade of 0.143% over a length of 10.2km, which is some 800m longer than the existing creek route, eliminating the need for the current drop structure.
  • Approximately 6.1km of levee, including diversion embankments, will be constructed as part of the proposal, with batter 1V to 3H on the water and dry side and with 10m crest width.
  • Diversion embankments will be constructed upstream and downstream to enable the diversion of to be achieved and to prevent the potential inundation of the future working coal pits.
  • The low flow channel will be lined with clay material in some sections of the creek to provide a low permeability layer.
  • The creek diversion will be topsoiled and appropriately vegetated over the total disturbed profile.
  • ML80086.
  • To increase ROM by 47 million tonnes of coal.
  • To be produced at 7mtpa through to 2025.
