• Demolition of existing buildings.
• Construction of a new 250 bed maximum security correctional facility contained within the site of the existing Cessnock Correctional Centre.
• Works will comprise accommodation & support services for 250 beds & associated facilities & services (including gatehouse, inmate industries, program buildings & visits building) housed within a purpose built security facility; associated development including the extension of internal access road & perimeter fence; earthworks to provide building platforms for the proposed buildings; upgrade of services; & staff and visitor parking.
• The new correctional centre involves the construction of a number of elements:- Block A & B ? accommodation, 2 storey buildings to house an additional 250 male maximum security inmates, these buildings will be located in the north east and north west corner of the compound, separated by a playing field; Block C - segregation building, single storey building containing individual cells each with a separate yard, day room, programs room & hobby room; Block D ? CUBIT accommodation (Custody Based Intensive Treatment), 2 storey building containing single cells, day room and dining room; Block E ? CUBIT program, single storey building containing group rooms, computer rooms, library, gym, interview rooms, staff offices, staff conference room and staff courtyard; Block F ? visits, single storey building containing indoor & outdoor visit areas, secure visit area, non-contact visit areas and children?s play area; Block H ? industries, single storey building to be used by inmates for industries; Block J ? programs, single storey building containing groups rooms, computer room, multi-purpose rooms, library, interview rooms, staff office and amenities; Block K ? reception & Block L - clinic, single storey building, reception area consists of intake yard, property store, holding cells, processing areas, staff offices and staff amenities, clinic contains observation cells, consulting rooms, x-ray room, dental clinic, treatment rooms, 2 x 1 bed wards, nurses station, dispensary, barber, staff training rooms, offices & outdoor area; Block M ? chapel, single storey building containing chapel, yard and office; & ancillary structures including a gym and games courts.These facilities will be constructed within a secure fenced area.
• Outside the secure area, works include: Block G ? gate house, 2 storey building containing waiting area, vehicle lock area, staff toilets, showers & lockers, baby change rooms.
• Precast concrete panel & face brick walls, steel mesh, pre-finished compress fibre cement, metal roofs.
• Provision of new car parking for staff (44 spaces) & visitors (50 spaces).
• Associated access roads.
• Landscaping, stormwater management & infrastructure works.
