Council is considering the long term location of their Administration Building, both strategically within the City and to meet future accommodation requirements. A working party was formed by LMCC to identify and explore the relevant issues and prepare a preliminary recommendation of the most suitable long-term strategic location of this building. The Glendale option has been identified by the working party as the most preferred option. It would require the purchasing of a site at Glendale and the development of a purpose built civic precinct accommodating the Council Administration Building and other ancillary facilities. The existing Administration Building site would be sold and possibly other landholdings nearby, for an alternative use, or as a development parcel. If the preferred option is not viable then the alternative option would be to redevelop the current site, at Speers Point, including the surrounding land holdings, to increase car parking and office space to meet future requirements, as well as the possible development of a civic precinct. An option is to deliver the civic precinct by means of a joint venture with a private developer. It is estimated that a total GFA of approximately 11,272sq m will be required by 2018 (based on 523 staff) and 13,780sqm (based on 703 staff) will be required by 2028, including a new district library of some 2,000sq m.
