NEWCASTLE REGIONAL MUSEUM - HONEYSUCKLE RAILWAY BUILDINGS
Hospitality (Conference & reception centres & facilities) project for New development. Development of a new museum, exhibition & technology centre in the existing Honeysuckle railway workshops. Major refurbishment of the 3 existing railway buildings to be connected with a new Link Building which will contain the main public foyer & orientation spaces. The new museum will be based on the existing Newcastle regional museum & will comprise the following key functions: The Museum of Newcastle will be located in the existing Blacksmiths Shop. The Supernova, an interactive science & technology display & touring exhibitions gallery (The Craven Crane Exhibition Centre) will be located in the Boiler Shop. This area will also be used as a venue facility. The existing amenities in this area will be retained. An Education Centre, containing a flat floor seminar room & an open plan office/resource area will be located in the Wheelsmiths shop. The existing amenities in this area will be retained. The Newcastle Works, incorporating the BHP Technology Centre will be located in the Erecting shed. It is envisaged that the exhibition will be accessed via a sculptural ramp which will direct visitors from the foyer into the space. The link building will house a temporary gallery, & will be the public face of the museum. The Link Building will be enclosed with a form which will unify the 3 heritage buildings. It is envisaged that the roof form will be structural steel with a metal clad roof & internal lining. This space will also be used to potentially display part of the large objects collection. A cafe facility & kitchen to service the venues facility will be located in the Blacksmiths Shop. This will also utilise the covered area to the north, under the existing awning which will be retained. The Erecting Shed will also contain a ground level storage facility & supporting back of house facilities including plant & a receiving/workshop area. A new mid level mezzanine will be inserted into the Erecting Shed. The mid level & the upper mezzanine will be accessed by a steel staircase & lift. A landscaped outdoor area, Railway Square, will also be developed to the south west of the site. This landscaped area will incorporate the leased Railcorp site & will provide a pedestrian link to the west & north of the site. Redevelopment of ground floor retail arcade. Redevelopment of the eastern portion of the casino currently occupied by large external stairs to contain additional restaurants, retail outlets, gaming space, other entertainment and tourist related facilities, a ceremonial entry & driveway providing a new vehicular drop-off to the Casino. Frontage will be significantly altered, the arcade will be provided with a new pedestrian entry point, & will be expanded and altered to connect to the new entry point located on the corner of Union and Edward Sts. The arcade will be upgraded to provide new connection points, retail premises and café/restaurant areas. Extensive alterations & additions to the frontage of the complex, stairs to the main entry to the casino complex will be demolished, frontage redeveloped to provide new 'front' to the site orientated towards Sydney Harbour. At ground level, new 'porte cochere' will be created, glass enclosed foyer containing stairs, escalators and elevators, café/restaurant at ground level. Level 00 of the new frontage will comprise an extension of the existing internal pedestrian arcade, with premium new retail outlets. Level 01 of the new frontage of the building will comprise an extension to the existing gaming floor, including two large open balconies, and a void to the entry below, Level 02 of the new frontage of the building will provide a new harbour view night venue, bar and restaurant, and an open landscape deck and void to the entry below. Level 03 will comprise a series of open decks, including a large pre-function area adjacent to the existing ballroom, which will be expanded. The large open deck immediately within the proposed new façade will have a bridge link to the ballroom pre-function area, and will accommodate a range of food, beverage and seating facilities. BLACKTOWN LEISURE CENTRE
Currently at the Construction stage In Blacktown is a project estimated to be $ 15000000. This project Building extension to the east of the 2 existing indoor courts to incorporate an additional 2 indoor courts (total of 4 courts). Tennis administration building. Tennis court complex comprising 16 tennis courts. New road. Ancillary works including pedestrian access, lighting & service road. The proposed indoor court extension seeks to extend the 2 existing indoor courts to the east to create 2 additional courts of the same size. The increased area of the stadium is proposed to be 1,740sq m in total, with 1,000sq m for use as a reception centre in line with the current use of the existing courts. The current spectator seating capacity of 230 in the stadium will increase to approximately 790 with 8 mobile seating stands. There will be standing room only on the mezzanine level of the stadium. The capacity of the stadium as a reception centre (functions seated at tables) will increase nominally by 1,000sq m (excluding mezzanine, storage & circulation space). In reception mode the capacity of the stadium will increase from 500 to 1,000 people. The proposed tennis administration building is a 2 storey building proposed at the rear of the existing aquatic centre & is ancillary to the proposed tennis court complex. The building consists of reception area, offices, professional suites, meeting rooms, tennis club room, proshop & ancillary areas including amenities. In addition, a balcony is proposed on the eastern facade. Permanent seating will be provided along the western edge of Court 1 and will accommodate 366 people. For special events it is proposed that the court is capable of a maximum seating capacity of 2,400 people. Internal road with a 7m wide carriageway, to connect the existing internal access road at Sentry Dr & Stanhope Rd.
