Consultant to undertake anthropological & ethnographic research that will form basis of interpretive plan & design of exhibits for centre. Works to include development of the Yagan Square with design influenced by the Noongar culture & to include features like an event space able to accommodate up to 8,500 people, amphitheatre, market for fresh foods, playground, native gardens, water feature, cycling centre, public art & digital tower with the ability to broadcast real-time events. It is expected during the day the canopy will provide shelter from the elements becoming a spectacular lighting display depicting the area's history in the evening. The ground level includes dive structure; southern market hall; northern laneway restaurant/bar/retail; Horseshoe Bridge - southern arches retail/hospitality; Horseshoe Bridge - northern arches retail/hospitality, bicycle centre, MRA operations office; public toilets; provision for events; digital tower; termination of water feature; canopies; future light rail and platform; and landscaping. The first floor of the development includes: public garden; water series and playscape feature, which will flow down to the ground level; provision for events; rooftop bars; cafe/restaurant; local and indigenous art sculptures and play equipment.
