BROWNS OXIDE PROJECT - NEW TAILINGS FACILITY
7 Km North West of, Batchelor, NT 0845 Has Browns Oxide Project - New Tailings Facility currently at Construction stage. The Tailings Storage Facility associated with the approved BOP has been found to overly a zone of potentially economic mineralisation. To avoid sterilisation of this zone of mineralisation th Company intends to construct a new TSF to contain the tailing from ore processed from the Browns oxide deposit in a location immediately adjacent to the approved TSF location. The new TSF has been designed on the basis that it will store both tailing and potentially acid forming (PAF) waste rock from the deposit. Prepatory activities associated with the construction of the new TSF are: vegetation clearing and grubbing, topsoil stripping and stockpiling, levelling of the site and compaction of existing clayey soils. The construction of the TSF will involve: an internal lining of compacted clayey soil, comprising a number of layers of low permeability material. Material for this zone will be preferentially sourced from a borrow pit located within the storage area, a rockfill zone for the external empbankment, constructed using NAF pit waste material, an internal ramp to access the decant system, and a PAF bund. The PAF bund will provide a physical barrier between tailings and the PAF waste, and is required because the tailings level will be higher than PAF waste level in the early stages of construction. A protective rockfill layer place (loose) over the face of the Zone 1 layer to provide protection from erosion and evaporative drying. Click for more details...

GOONYELLA RIVERSIDE BROADMEADOW COAL OPERATIONS EXPANSION
A project in the QLD Within Isaac Regional. The project involves an expansion of the existing Goonyella Riverside open cut and the underground operations at Broadmeadow to increase the capacity from 16 Mt/a to 24 Mt/a. Mining and processing will yield a Hard Coking Coal product for the export market. The open cut expansion and underground expansions will result in an additional 5Mt/a and 3Mt/a of product coal respectively. The surface expansion will use the current open cut mining methods, which involve truck and shovel fleets and draglines exposing coal. Most of the open cut spoil from the expanded operations will be disposed of within mined out pits as is the current practice. However, it is expected that some of the spoil will need to be disposed of in out-of-pit spoil dumps. The existing Broadmeadow Mine, which extracts the Goonyella Middle Seam (GMS), will be expanded eastwards using either the conventional longwall mining practices currently being used for its operations or see the introduction of Longwall Top Coal Caving (LTCC) technology once its feasibility is proven as a means to improve the levels of resource recovery compared to conventional longwall mining methods. A second longwall mine is currently under investigation using either conventional longwall methods or LTCC method. The existing mine has much of the necessary infrastructure in place, however, there are infrastructure upgrades required for the expansion of the mine including: a new CHPP and upgrade to the existing CHPP; construction of an additional 66kV feeder adjacent to the present Goonyella 66kV line; expansion of the existing tailings storage facilities to accommodate increased tailings volumes; improvements to the existing mine water management system, including clean water diversion, disturbed area runoff collection and treatment, pit water management, water reuse and water disposal if there is surplus water at any time that cannot be reused on site. The expansion element of the project requires an additional coal preparation capacity of approximately 2 370 tonnes per hour (t/h) to achieve a production rate of 24 Mt/a. The options to achieve this throughput are to expand the existing CHPP's and/or build a new plant to supplement one or both existing plants. The new CHPP is likely to be tied into the existing product handling system. Alternatively a separate train load-out will be constructed on one of the existing rail loops. The product coal will be railed approximately 190km to the Hay Point and/or Dalrymple Bay coal terminals. Click for more details...
