Currently at the Construction stage In Port Hedland is a project estimated to be $ 1000000. This project Conduits are to enable the hauling in of the submarine cable(s) from the sea floor to the cable terminal at Port Hedland. Scope of works includes: The installation of 2 directionally drilled steel conduits at Cooke Point to the sea floor at the submerged base of the rock shelf off Cemetery Beach (approximately 600 m offshore), an overall distance of approximately 700 m. The landward ends of the conduits are to be at least 1 m below ground level and exit approximately 1 m apart into a reinforced underground concrete chamber to be specified by Telstra and supplied by the contractor as part of the work. The seaward end of the conduits are to exit on and be parallel to the sea floor and be separated by at least 100 m. The conduits are to be inter-screwed Premium, Class 2 or Class 3 high strength steel drill pipe with an internal diameter of at least 90 mm and a wall thickness of at least 20 mm. The internal bore is to be clean, smooth, free of any corrosion pitting, sharp ridges and to be proven as fit for the purpose. Both the seaward and landward ends of the conduits are to be fitted with steel flanges to be specified by Telstra. All the work is to be completed no later than mid-February 1996.
