ALCAN GOVE BAUXITE OPERATIONS - REFINERY EXPANSION - INFRASTRUCTURE
Mining - Civil Services (Water distribution & pipelines, borefields) New project at Gove Peninsula, North West Arnhem Land via, Nhulunbuy, NT 0880. This type is Infrastructure with Private ownership. Refinery expansion will increase production from a current 2 Mt/y to 3.8Mt/y in 2007. All new process areas will be concrete bunded with sumps installed. Stormwater drainage and utilities will be extended to all new areas and facilities. The existing sewerage treatment facility will be upgraded by the addition of seperate reticulation and package sewerage plants. Proposed expansion includes stockpiling and handling. Bauxite will not be exported from Gove anymore but will be directed to the refinery. Stockpile sizes will remain the same, but stacker and feed conveyor systems will be upgraded or replaced and the refinery reclaimer will also be replaced. Three new grinding mills will be installed to replace the old rod and ball mills. One new mill slurry tank and pump transfer system together with one train of indirect mill slurry equipment will be installed. The heated feed will now be processed in a new high temperature double digestion process. A third low temperature digestion plant will be installed, as well as deep-cone thickners and high pressure pumps. The mud and liquor residue will be seperated in pressure decanters and processed through a train of new high rate washers and a single train of five deep cone thickners. The existing washers and thickners will be used for storage of residue liquids. Some will be demolished. Six new vertical pressure filters will be installed in a new security filtation area to process most of the turbid liquor flow from the thickners. Agglomeration precipitators and growth precipitators will be added to increase capacity as well as two interstage cooling facilities will be installed on each growth precipitator train. Flash vessels and a barometric condenser will be installed using cooling water from new cooling towers. A new hydrocyclone classification system with three classification stages allowing three different sized hydrate streams to be produced will be installed. A new filtration area and equipment will be installed to conduct filtration of various hydrate streams. Equipment will include six drum filters, vacum pumps and air blowers. Three new stationary calciners will be installed in conjunction with new hydrate conveyors and upgraded aluminia transfer systems. A new evaporation plant will be installed as well as cooling towers for vapour removal in the last three flash stages. Lime plant capacity will be increased from 140 t/h to 200 t/h by installing a new burner system and modifying the kiln's internal geometry. A new burnt lime storage silo will be installed. The existing power station will be converted from fuel oil to gas that will involve a new boiler and associated turbine units. The neutralisation plant will include a mixing tank and two thickners in a bunded area. New liquor purification plant will be constructed involving two seperate plants for the mixing and drying stage. Click for more details...

EASTERN GOLDFIELDS - NICKEL/GOLD
Mining - Civil Services (Transmission lines/towers, switching yards, transformers, substations, cabling) project In The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Council Area of Mines - Gas-Fired Power Stations (4) type. 4 x 40 megawatt power stations to be built to supply electricity to the Company's Mt Keith, Leinster & Kambalda nickel operations. In addition, a new power station is to be installed at the Kalgoorlie nickel smelter. Proposals will utilise gas from the Pilbara-Goldfields pipeline which is due to deliver gas July/August 1996. 200mm diameter spur lines will be constructed to the gas pipeline & a transmission line will connect Mt Keith & Leinster sites. MT KEITH - NICKEL
Mt Keith - Nickel is currently at the Construction stage, valued at about $ 12500000 it is Project underwent EPA assessment on the consultative environmental review level. Proposal is to reduce saline seepage risk & increase system stability. A total tailings storage capacity of about 240mt is required due to increased operations. Proposed facility to incorporate a 5 km diameter x 3m x 5m high embankment plus ring main distribution pipe & will feed 9 vertical risers (purchased). Tailings slurry will be discharged through risers & will flow out to form a series of low, overlapping cones (approximately 3% slope). Tailings water & stormwater runoff to be recycled as plant process water. Works approval granted by EPA for associated works (grinding & milling). HAZELWOOD 2030 PROJECT - POWER STATION UPGRADE
Mining - Civil Services (Power stations, Power generation) project for New development. The project involves a retro-fit of the power station to reduce greenhouse emissions. Work will comprise the trial fitting of two technologies into the power station. The station comprises 8 units that generate electricity from brown coal. The first technology will involve replacing the mills that produce the brown coal feed into the boiler. This coal drying technology will reduce coal moisture from 60% to about 12% before being fired into a modified and retro fitted boiler. When installed it will take less energy to convert coal into electricity and reduce emissions by 30%. The carbon dioxide capture technology will involve the construction of a plant to capture carbon dioxide from the burnt coal, which will be used for sequestration. When construction is completed this will reduce emissions by 50%. In total by 2009 emissions will be reduced by 80%. Click for more details...

HAY POINT COAL TERMINAL EXPANSION - HPX3 - BERTH 3 & ONSHORE FACILITIES
A project in the QLD Within Mackay Regional. Construction of a new berth wharf (Berth 3) and shiploader (Shiploader 3/SL3). Construction of 2 new outloading trestle conveyors on a new offshore trestle complete with access roadway. Construction of offshore link conveyors to existing Berths 1 & 2 & the proposed Berth 3 from the new outloading trestle conveyors. Reclamation of land (9.4ha) to the northeast of the existing stockyard area to facilitate the construction of new onshore outloading systems. PILBARA 333 IRON ORE OPERATIONS EXPANSION PROJECT

CAVAL RIDGE COAL PROJECT - COAL PREPARATION PLANT & RAIL FACILITIES
Mining - Civil Services (Rail loops, Track work, Signalling, Rolling stock, Switching yards) project at 16km south of, Moranbah, QLD 4744 of Coal Preparation Plant/Rail Loadout/Conveyor/Roads type of New development. The proposed Caval Ridge CHPP will have a nominal feed capacity of 2 000 t/h and is capable of processing 14-16 Mt/a to produce a nominal 8 Mt/a of hard coking coal, 5.5 Mt/a of which will be sourced from the Caval Ridge Mine & the balance to come by conveyor from the expanded Peak Downs mine. The facility shall operate seven days per week on a continuous basis. The CHPP will consist of: ROM dump hopper for primary sizing; secondary and tertiary sizers with intermediate screening; raw coal stockpiles with mechanised stacking and reclaim facilities; 2 module coal preparation plant, nominally 1000 tph, per module; product coal stockpiles with mechanised stacking and reclaim facilities; train loadout to the north of the Peak Downs Highway, a conveyor will transport material crossing the highway; reject bin and handling system and ultrafine tailings dewatering system. Water supply to be a combination of site water reuse & a raw water supply via a new off take pipeline from existing bulk pipelines. Process plant water will be recycled to minimise raw water make-up requirements for the site. A project for a 5 year life-of-mine (LoM) extension by expanding the existing South pit followed by expansion of the Entrance pit after which a new MIA pit to be developed involving relocation of the current mine infrastructure area.
